If you skip this step, you\u2019re gonna get soaked and make a muddy mess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Dig and Expose the Break<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Use a shovel or trowel to dig out around the pipe. Give yourself room\u2014<strong>at least 6\u201312 inches of clearance<\/strong> on both sides. Use <strong>poly pipe cutters<\/strong> for poly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cut <strong>clean and square<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove <strong>about 2\u20134 inches<\/strong> of damaged pipe (or more if needed)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dry out the area\u2014no glue will stick to a muddy, wet pipe<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: Repair It<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For <strong>PVC Pipe<\/strong>:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Get a <strong>coupling<\/strong> and a short <strong>repair pipe section<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use <strong>PVC primer and cement<\/strong> on all connection points<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slide the parts together, give it a little twist, and hold 10 seconds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Let cure <strong>30 minutes<\/strong> (or follow product directions)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alternative:<\/strong> Use a <strong>telescoping repair coupling<\/strong>\u2014super handy if you don\u2019t want to cut and measure<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For <strong>Poly Pipe<\/strong>:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use <strong>barbed couplings<\/strong> and <strong>hose clamps<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slide the barbed fitting into both ends<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tighten clamps with a screwdriver or nut driver<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Double-check tightness\u2014poly pipe loves to pop off if not secure<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 5: Test It<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Turn the water back on <strong>slowly<\/strong>.
